May 2nd Update

This message was sent to The Devil's Courthouse Group on Facebook. I thought it appropriate to post as a blog here as well.

Hello, everyone. I just wanted to give a quick update on what is happening with The Devil’s Courthouse. First, let me say, how truly honored I am that so many of you have decided to join this group dedicated to the novel. It really has been an eye-opener in terms of the response, and I can’t thank you enough. It has been great making contact with my friends and family and especially reconnecting with so many of my former students. Secondly, the novel’s official release date is today May 2nd. This is the day most major venues should have the novel ready for purchase. Unfortunately, my new wholesaler, Baker and Taylor, has just completed an overhaul of their catalogue and it still may take a few days to see the novel listed on such sites as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. If you are members of these sites, please continue to try them over the next couple of days -- it should be appearing shortly. Also, in addition to the recent article in the Times and Democrat, the novel is going to be featured and/or reviewed in several publications over the next few weeks. Because of the novel’s setting, most of these media are centered in western NC (The Mountaineer, The Mountain Xpress, The Asheville Citizen-Times, WNC Magazine, etc). Once these publications go live, I will link them to the novel’s website (keep your fingers crossed that the reviews are positive). Most of you are aware of the first book signing at Swift Books in the Orangeburg Mall June 3rd. We are also working on signings at stores in Brevard, Waynesville, Charlotte, Cherokee, and several bookstores in Asheville. I will not be making these signings as separate events on Facebook, but I will let you know the dates when they are to occur. And finally, I have been encouraged by the response of some the “in the know” people in publishing and if there is any measure of success to this novel, I will certainly be looking to begin work on the second one. Again, I just want to thank everyone in this group for their continued support and I thank each of you for visiting the novel’s website. You are welcome to leave comments here in the guestbook and give your personal review if you’d like. Also, those who wish to purchase the novel, can do so directly through a link to the publisher. Thanks for helping to get the ball rolling -- I hope everyone has a great day!

Lawrence, I loved your book. It got my attention from the very beginning and couldn't quit reading. Am a little familiar with the area so that was great too. Sure hope you plan to write more novels in the near future.

Thanks, Connie! All comments very much appreciated. Already in talks to do a second one, hopefully by next summer.
